Authentic Qing Dynasty Chinese Strong Box with a Collection of Historical Coins
A true treasure chest filled with genuine treasure! This solid hardwood strong box from the Qing Dynasty was designed to carry valuable, heavy cargo such as coins and precious metals. Constructed with durability in mind, it features a brass locking plate, sturdy brass side handles, reinforced hinges, and four attachment points for hefting chains on both the front and rear. These chains would allow the box to be carried suspended from a wooden pole, borne by two people. Additional brass studs and corner plates protect the edges, enhancing both its resilience and historical charm.
Inside, this box houses approximately 4,000 well-preserved cash coins, representing the variety of currency that may have been found in a treasure box of this period. Most coins are from the Qing Dynasty, dating back to the 1700s, with some even older, originating from the Northern Song Dynasty. There’s also a smaller selection of Vietnamese coins, adding a layer of historical intrigue. Such a trove could well have been the property of Chinese maritime traders—or even pirates!
The treasure box is in excellent condition, maintaining its original strength and integrity carrying nearly 16 kg of coins. The value is based on the wholesale price of the coins in China, which has the lowest market price for these coins.
